October extinguished itself in a rush of howling winds and driving rain and November arrived, cold as frozen iron, with hard frosts every morning and icy drafts that bit at exposed hands and faces.”
― J.K. Rowling,
Oh yes, November indeed! After a rather late Summer here in Quebec, we are now facing a cold beginning of Winter! Winter is not coming, it’s indeed here! Mittens, tuques, hats, warm knits are officially out! Today, it was the first time that I went out after having surgery (more to come on that in the next weeks) and the temperature was so cold that my transitional coat (the one I used between cold and colder seasons) left its hanger in my closet haha.
I have always thought that November is a boring month. Nothing happens, unless you’re in school so you’re busy prepping for finals coming in December. But in terms of nice festivities happening outside, like festivals, or anything outdoors, there’s no much choice. In terms of weather, days are so gray and sad! Sun is less frequent and I’m a tropical plant, I need my natural light haha.
This year however, I decided to give November a chance and try to make it fun, starting right now! In fact, yesterday, I went with Mr. Love to watch the World Series final game at the Cage aux sports. As a Mexican with half of her family established in California, I have cheered for the Dodgers since I’m a baby! I remember watching the games with my father and listening to stories about the great Fernando Valenzuela, a talented Mexican Pitcher who played for the Dodgers for about 10 years! Unfortunately we lost the game, and the series, so congratulations are in order to the Astros and their fans! Hopefully, one day we’ll be back and this time we’ll get the win!
Today for example I have another reason to celebrate! It’s the Day of the Dead, or Día de muertos in Mexico. You can get more details about this beautiful celebration in my post (click here). November will also be a month in which I intend to accomplish some projects: finishing the decoration of our family room, completing some courses at Coursera, making a weekend trip to Ottawa to celebrate my man’s big day, painting some pieces of furniture to add to my living room and entry… and calligraphy! Yes, just like that! I love writing, I’m a big paper-based things fan, from notebooks, to post-its, to books. Probably it’s because as a X-ennial, I wasn’t until I was in Junior High School that technology started to introduce big changes in my life! We’ll see how it goes with this new artistic project!
I will be keeping you posted either here or on my Instagram account about my progress with my many projects and other things in my life. So, stay tuned for all updates. And let’s make November great!
